‘’Equal chances for everybody’’
The Association 'YOUR CHANCE' (Asociatia SANSA TA) is a non-profit organization that wants to promote the right to a better life for children and young adults who are leaving the foster houses in Romania.
Founded accorded to the Government Ordinance 26/2000, the Association 'YOUR CHANCE' acquired the legal personality in 2011, being registered in the Register of Association and Foundations of the Courthouse Buftea under the number 36 PJ/ 2011.
Our vision is to create healthy principles for the personal development of the person, to help the young orphans to integrate into society, to teach them to live an independent life, based on moral and social principles. We want to build a better world for the young generation, so everybody has a right to a decent life and to respect the developmental, social and moral responsibilities of each individual.
Our mission is to ensure an individualized intervention plan for the young adults that are contacting the services of the organization 'Your Chance'. This is a plan of reinstatement in the society in the purpose to help orphans to become active resources for the society.
The team 'YOUR CHANCE' consists of dedicated and enthusiastic people who wish to identify the real needs of our society and to implement projects for a category of disadvantaged people (institutionalized children, institutionalized young persons, homeless people, families with children that are in difficulty). 2. Description of the Project Social
Name of the project: EQUAL CHANCES FOR EVERYBODY
Type of the project: Social project in partnership with local, regional, national and international public authorities
Local authority partner: The Buftea Municipality
Description of the project: The construction of a social house which is going to contain 12 housing places with 35 mp each.
Location : Buftea, Ilvof
Target group or beneficiaries: 30 young adults that are raised in orphanages and are leaving the foster homes.
Timeline: 1.11.2011-31.12.2014 with renewable admissions
Purpose of the project: We want to build in Buftea a social shelter which is going to have 12 places for young adults, which are raised in orphanages and are going to leave the foster houses, in order to help them integrate into our society.
Objectives of the project: The main objective represents building and putting in use a space for the young adults without a home, with the secure knowledge of not being evicted, so they can feel bounded with this shelter and, therefore, help them to build their independence and make their own life.
At the same time the organization proposes the establishment of a community support network, which includes and promotes a brighter future for these individuals. This community will include specialists in the field, volunteers, all working together with the the targeted group for the construction of the house in order to be a part of the construction team and the development of the place they are going to live.
Problem analysis. From the statistic point of view, approximately 74.000 children are in the state care in Romania (from a total of 4.600.000 children under 18 years of age) , and 26.599 children are raised in orphanages, most of them with ages between 14-17. About 2000 young adults are leaving annually from the foster houses.
Thus, a big number of young adults are living in Romania within the foster houses where they have been raised. Without analyzing the causes, we can see that many of the young adults don’t have the skills to live independently, they don’t know how to communicate in an appropriate way, they don’t know how to manage their resources, to search or keep a job. If we add the fact that they don’t have a roof over their head, we will see that after they turn 18, they have very good chances to arrive on the streets or to end up in jail.
As a result of this, developments of some social programs are required to give them some possibilities of living and support in gaining independent living skills.
Our solution. The Association ‘YOUR CHANCE’ is dedicated to providing support for disadvantaged young people in order to help them to integrate into our society. Our goal is to develop housing and social services, which enables young orphans to trust their own strengths, thereby reducing dependency on social assistance system.
This kind of project was difficult to develop until now due to high material costs per beneficiary for building some places, such as buildings to support the individuals and payment of staff involved.
To overcome such difficulties, we propose, that the advertisement to the general public through mass media- press releases, fundraising, concerts are a success so that contributions of different factors are reduced and that specialist staff involvement is to be on a voluntary basis.
The young individuals will also be involved in the activities required such as creating the building in which they will live in, and then, if they can afford, they will have the right to buy their houses. The construction costs and the proceeds will be used to continue the project, and to increase the number of beneficiaries.
Therefore, we want the project "EQUAL CHANCES FOR EVERYONE" to continue after 2014.
